Make Cookies Work for You, Not Against You
In the early days of the internet when the term “cookies” was introduced, it definitely caused lots of people to be super confused as to what this thing means. Even though the term was searched a lot on the likes of Ask Jeeves (well before you could google things), it was still confusing then as it pretty much is now.
The thing that has misled people to coming to grips and accepting cookies is the idea that they are created to keep tabs on your every move like an online spy detective. For consumers there is a belief that cookies tend to favour the companies in terms of data capturing, but is not very useful for them. The main reason for this belief is the lack of clear information as to what the customer information is being used for, the level of information that is being shared about the consumer, what type of protection is in place to ensure consumer information stays pretty much safe and not open to cyber criminals.
Time for Companies to Gain Consumers Trust
Usually the main function of a cookie is so that it gets information about a consumer with regards their interaction with a particular website, and to remember such information. So in effect when that same consumer returns to that website the information held can then be used to customise goods or services to present to that consumer.
Companies now need to become wise with their customers with the use of cookies. There is a need for total transparency surrounding the use of cookies with consumers.
Consumers will be more open and willing to accept cookies from companies that lets them know everything they will be using their information for.
Companies now need to adopt a new approach with cookies by retraining consumers on its importance and how the benefits are both ways. This then arms the company with the tool to be able to target its audience with accurately and provide them with what they need. When this is done very well then the companies can start to see increase in their profits, and also providing their consumers with a very seamless customer journey on their website.
